Tar Beach

For one of my outside readings I read Tar Beach. This is a short, illustrated story about a minority girl in the 1940s who imagines that she owns all the riches by laying on her roof and looking across the city. Her father helped build the George Washington Bridge in New York and he was not able to enter into the union, Cassie the main character decides to use her imagination to have the riches of the city while being in the company of her family and friends; what really matters.
